This episode is FINE okay? There are lots of good lil moments. I really enjoy the spooks and its not something we get a lot out of the show. I was just really put off by the character who is crying for 100% of the episode and who cannot communicate to save her life. The episode could’ve been cut in half if she would just get a word out that wasn’t “god is punishing me” like bro these people are scientists, say something useful. Anyway there was still stuff I enjoyed: the dwarfs! Dumb pranks! SHIELD Hogwarts! Oh these all have to do with fitzsimmons uh…. May backstory! Lets get through it get to it.
Man behind the counter at a convenience store reading a newspaper. The headline is, “Laboratory Accident Kills 4’ with a girl’s picture. The girl from the picture walks in. The counter man was a friend of one of the victims. He confronts her. He thinks it was her fault. Then, things start flying off the shelves at him. He runs outside and there is gas pouring everywhere. There is fire. The gas pumps explode! The girl is crying and says “oh lord not again”
In a hotel room, May and Ward are putting their clothes back on. He says “we should follow the same plan as before. Take separate routes back and stagger timing” so this wasn’t the first time. oooooooh
Coulson thinks this case would be a good chance for Skye to practice working with people with newfound abilities. A particle accelerator exploded. People blame the girl from the opening scene because she was the engineer. Skye feels bad for the girl and is looking forward to talking to her, but Coulson wants her to stay in the car. He is bringing along May and Ward in case of danger.
The girl is outside standing on her front porch while people in the neighborhood yell at her. They are throwing eggs at her why isn’t she inside?
An empty police car drives on its own to try to run people over. An officer thinks it’s the girl using some powers and points a gun at her. May shoots the girl with a night night gun.
Fitzsimmons is outside the exploded Particle Accelerator Complex collecting data from the dwarves.
While discussing telekinesis, they bring up a prank pulled on them at the academy. Since they graduated early, they never got to pull pranks on freshmen. Aha! But now they can consider Skye a freshman SHIELD recruit so they can pull a prank on her! Or can they?(no they absolutely cannot, the poor buggers)
I enjoy the end of this scene when Fitz gives an order to another agent. It’s a note to us that this little floppy dude holds power and respect amongst his peers [1]and this other agent is Agent Davis!!! We won’t see him again until season 4, I believe. It’s so fun to spot him way back here just saying “yes sir”
They have the girl (whoops I didn’t learn her name) on a mattress in the honeycomb room. Coulson wants to earn her trust by bringing May in to talk to her and explain. The girl (Hannah Hutchins! I heard it that time) says she wasn’t angry at anyone. She knows the townsfolk are angry at her and she doesn’t blame them. She killed those laboratory people.
Skye is all ‘boo May shouldn’t have shot her wah’ but FitzSimmons is on my side – “things got out of hand. May sorted it out.” I don’t see where Skye’s outrage is coming from. That’s what those night night guns are made for right? Then Skye asks where May’s nickname “The Cavalry” comes from. So … as a prank… FitzSimmons tells an extravagant tale of May taking down over a hundred mercenaries while on horseback. A pretty subtle prank if you ask me, but these doofuses don’t have much practice.
Ms. Hannah Hutchins says she checked on the Accelerator and never found anything wrong. Coulson suggests that she may have telekinetic abilities, but she says something like ‘no idiot, its not me, it’s the demons who are haunting me!’ ok cool. Then as the team is trying to debunk the demon theory in the situation room, a ghostly image of a man disappears from behind Coulson! Ooohh spook.
Skye is mad she’s not allowed to talk to Hannah. Skye tells Ward that maybe May would loosen up if she got laid. Whoops. Then she brings up the Cavalry story. Ward corrects the story saying there were only 20 men and no horse.
Skye is looking into Tobias Ford who put in safety complaints before he was one of the four victims of the accelerator accident.
Simmons is looking at something in the data which seems to be a window to … another planet… or another dimension…. Then a ghostly Tobias Ford pops up behind her! He says it’s a window to hell and attacks her before disappearing! Then we see him take out the power on the plane. May manages to land the plane safely.
Coulson tries to radio for help, but Ford knocks out the antenna thing.
Skye finally gets permission to talk to Hannah. Hannah says she deserves to be punished by God because she caused those deaths. Skye grew up around nuns who told scary stories about God’s wrath; it made her not wanna believe. One nun told her that “god is love” so that’s the version she likes. She tells Hannah that if that’s true, he would forgive a mistake and not punish her. It’s a nice conversation, but May interrupts it to stand guard. I don’t understand why she cut off the conversation. But even more so, I do not know why Skye says “try not to hurt her even more than you already have, Agent May.” That is way harsh. All May did was sedate a person in a volatile situation!
FitzSimmons believes the lab may have been researching portals to other worlds. There were reports of portals popping up in London after the most recent Thor movie.
Tobias knocks Ward out with a wrench and locks the three of them in a closet.
Coulson gives Skye clarity on the Cavalry story. SHIELD was the welcome wagon for a gifted person in Bahrain, and it went south. There was a gifted individual with followers who were holding a civilian girl and SHIELD agents captive. May went in and crossed off the enemy force by herself. She lost herself in there. Coulson says that before the Bahrain incident, May was warmer – fearless in a different way. She broke rules. Had fun…. Like Skye.
May realizes that the reason the team is being attacked is because Tobias can’t get to Hannah. She lets Hannah out and brings her to some barn near where they emergency landed. She says “I don’t mean to scare you, I just need to use you as bait.”
Coulson uses his cool antique radio watches to blow the doors open. Aw they only made 20 of those, I think.
They put their brains together and realize that Tobias CAUSED the safety problems to get Hannah’s attention. He likes her. That’s why he has been attacking everyone around her – to protect her. Aww (jk that’s hugely problematic).
In the barn, Hannah can see that her demon is Tobias so she pleads with him. He admits to causing the problems that killed him and the 3 others. He asks her to forgive him so he won’t go to hell. She says “only God can forgive you” and May says “and he won’t. You can’t undo what’s been done.” Oof that’s rough even though this man has done something bad. May says “let the girl go” he holds Hannah’s hand then finally disappears and moves on. May tells Coulson that she said to Tobias the same thing that Coulson said to her in Bahrain. Ahhh … let the girl go… a clue
How are they gonna explain this to the community….
Coulson tells Skye she is good with people, and he wanted her watching the whole process so she could do it officially once she is an agent.
She goes and sits with May in the cockpit. Aw friends
Final stinger. Simmons, Ward, Coulson, and Skye are playing a game of UpWords when Fitz comes in with whipped cream on his face having just been pranked while sleeping. They all say it wasn’t them and we cut to May listening in from the cockpit. She gives a lil smirk. Aw May had fun. Yay.
